The KDS — kitchen display system, the screen that shows order tickets — has always been big-chain territory: dedicated hardware, installers, contracts. With Ordinami.it it is a page of your back office: open ordinami.it on the kitchen tablet, tap "Kitchen display" and the tickets start coming in on their own, in real time, with a dedicated sound and a screen that never sleeps. Included from the MEDIO plan, with no mandatory hardware.
What the kitchen sees
Every order is a ticket on a dark background, readable from two metres away: the table (or the customer's name for takeaway, with the collection time in bold), the dishes with quantities, the customer's notes in yellow. At the top, the colour-coded waiting time: green under 10 minutes, amber up to 20, red beyond — the kitchen sees at a glance what is getting old without anyone asking "how long has that ticket been sitting there?".
New orders come in with a double beep designed to be heard over the noise of service, and tickets sort themselves from oldest to newest.
The workflow: three taps
The cook taps a dish and marks it "in preparation" — and the guest at the table gets a discreet notice that their dish is on its way. Tap it again and it is "ready". When the last dish on the ticket has been served, the ticket disappears; for simple orders there is the "ALL DONE" button that closes everything in one go.
No training, no manual: it is the digital equivalent of crumpling up the slip when the order goes out — except the slip doesn't get lost, doesn't get greasy and doesn't end up under the counter.
What hardware you need (spoiler: what you already have)
Any tablet or computer with a browser: a cheap Android tablet, an old iPad, even a retired laptop. The display goes full-screen with one tap and never goes to standby while the page is open. If you prefer ready-made hardware, on any plan you can add a pre-configured iPad on loan for an extra €5.99/month.
The KDS works alongside the front-of-house Orders board: the kitchen sees the tickets, whoever is on the floor sees the board with tables, waiter calls and bill requests. Same data, two views, each to their own.
Why it beats paper slips
The paper ticket has three flaws every service knows: it gets lost, it doesn't say how long it has been waiting, and when something changes it has to be rewritten. The KDS eliminates all three — and adds what paper never could: the guest ordering from the table's QR code reaches the kitchen on their own, with nobody transcribing anything. Zero handoffs, zero transcription errors, zero "but I said no onions".
The kitchen display is included from the MEDIO plan together with table ordering, takeaway and push notifications: if you want to see it with your own real orders, the trial is free and complete.
Frequently asked questions
What hardware do I need for the kitchen display?
Any tablet or computer with a browser: open the back office, tap "Kitchen display" and you are done. If you prefer ready-made hardware, every plan can include a pre-configured iPad for an extra €5.99/month.
Does the KDS work for takeaway too?
Yes: takeaway orders arrive as tickets with the customer's name and the collection time in bold, so the kitchen always knows what has to go out and when.
Does the kitchen notice new orders?
Yes: every new order comes in with a dedicated double beep and the ticket joins the queue. Waiting times change colour from green to amber to red as the minutes pass.
Does the screen go to standby during service?
No: as long as the KDS page is open the screen stays on. There is also a full-screen button, so the tablet shows nothing but the kitchen.
How much does the KDS cost?
It is included in the MEDIO plan at €49.90/month + VAT, together with table ordering, commission-free takeaway, push notifications and the menu in 6 languages.
